Reflection on pattern and abstraction of the subconscious

Good Intentions, 2020

These works are birthed from material and emotion. Gifted with the remnants of Greek Orthodox prayer candles, I found their sense of sacred the appropriate ground to begin working through harm caused by good intentions reproduced from following cultural norms and traditions. The works are abstractions of a dialogue between this material and the observations and reactions to the material when set aflame, a cathartic release. The global pandemic fell into the time period of creating these works and incidentally expanded the translation of process to a universal message of consumption and rebirth.
