Inner Expressions Encaustic Exhibit

By the residents of the Kansas City Rescue Mission Women’s Center, Studio Joy presents Inner Expressions, an encaustic exhibit at Beggar’s Table Gallery.

Date: First Friday, March 4, 2016
Time: 6-9pm
Location: Beggars Table Gallery, 2010 Baltimore Ave, Kansas City MO 64108

This exhibit developed from a place of expression and experimentation by a group of women who do not all identify as artists. The common bond of these women is the shared space in which they live and the shared experience of homelessness that has brought them together. Through a contemplative approach, each grouping of paintings or collaborative panel is an expression of a thought or emotion explored during their time at Studio Joy. Each of the paintings in this exhibit is encaustic, a medium that none of the women had experienced prior. Encaustic paint is composed of beeswax, resin and pigment and is applied in molten state to the substrate.

Most of the paintings will be available for sale with the profit being donated to the Kansas City Rescue Mission Women’s Center.

I cannot express the joy in observing the initial trepidation, the relaxing, and then the approach of pure play and experimentation as the ladies painted each week with encaustic. Please come meet and support the women with your presence and perhaps invest in a painting or two at the First Friday Event in the Kansas City Crossroads this March.
