Family Reunion Soldered Pendants

Family Reunion fun!

Family Reunion fun!

This is it, the first class in which I teach in Studio Joy! Yes, the art journaling group has been meeting, but I was only facilitating that gathering as we went through a book. (The book is completed and I begin teaching in that group as well, but I’ll save that for another day.)

I love to teach. I love to share techniques, tricks and a passion to create. I love to help others break through creative barriers, to find that zing. And I immensely enjoy what I teach. Excitement upon excitement.

This class in particular brings me joy. The memories of making and bringing pendants for the girls in my family right after the loss of my grandfather will always be cherished. We were so honored to wear my grandpa’s name at the reunion, to represent our family in unity.

Beyond the reunion, I now have a special remembrance of my ornery grandpa and of our family gatherings, as do all the girls in our family. Whenever I am feeling nostalgic, the pendants bearing his name dangle around my neck. I want to share this gift with you.

And I want to address the cost of the class. This class is more expensive than my past soldering classes for a couple reasons, it is a full day class instead of an afternoon, and the number of pendants created in class are limited only by the clock. Plus there is the bonus of giving gifts made by one’s own hand, and these are two-sided pendants, so each set made can be flipped and worn on the other side. Abundance.

*Example: your piece will be unique.

Using hand cut glass, you will make a cluster of skinny double-sided pendants to hang on a ball chain along with a charm or bauble. Basic wire wrapping will be taught as well. Plenty of papers, charms, and elements will be provided, but if you would like to bring charms or paper that would make your pendants more personal, please do. You can make as many of these charms as you’d like! I made these for all the girls in my family at a recent reunion. All the daughters, granddaughters and great-granddaughters of Bob Nelson word a beautiful necklace proclaiming their heritage. The bead I have attached to the example was my grandmother’s which added that much more meaning to this necklace. Adorable and so meaningful! Bonus, the skinny pendants are two sided, so flip them over for wear on another day.
