Contradiction?

Last week’s assignment from The Artist’s Way included writing and hanging this mantra:

So is the mantra a contradiction to this:

Matthew 16:24-26 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. (25) For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. (26) For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

What do you think? What does it mean to deny oneself in this context? Especially you, Amber (who is also working through this book), what do you think?

I have an opinion and will share it in a few days, but I wondered what other reactions there might be.

  1. Sarah says:

I am not as good at scripture as you are; however, I know that it is God’s will that I nurture my talents as well as those of the people around me. I also know that I am better able to make the necessary sacrifices when I do nurture myself.

It is True that we are each precious to God.
Anything I do that is self centered and prideful is done out of insecurity to make myself look and feel better on the outside. All that is accomplished in these acts is a sense of false security.

I believe that if we can connect to our security in the Truth and Knowledge of our invaluable worth in God’s eyes, we WILL become strengthened in Him.

Therefor, maybe it was not the writer’s intention, but we can tweak our signs, our lives, our everything to suite our own beliefs and passions…
    my sign would read:

I am a precious daughter of The Most High God
and in Him I find all Strength.
(greater is He who is in me…)

    =)
